Strážky Fortress (Slovakia)

Weather…

Strážky Manor is an architectural gem of the Spiš region, combining Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. Its current appearance is shaped by the Renaissance reconstruction between 1570 and 1590, when the original 13th-century building was expanded into a fortified residence with characteristic attic gables and sgraffito decoration. For a long time, the manor was owned by the influential Horváth-Stansith family, who established a humanist school and one of the region's most important libraries here. A significant part of its history is linked to the painter Ladislav Mednyánszky, who lived and worked here; today, the manor houses an extensive gallery of his works. The building is surrounded by a photogenic English park featuring sculptures from various periods. As a branch of the Slovak National Gallery, Strážky Manor now provides insights into aristocratic living culture and the art history of the region beneath the High Tatra Mountains.
