Tatranská Kotlina is the easternmost and lowest-lying resort in the High Tatras. Established in the late 19th century, it is primarily a climatic spa specializing in the treatment of respiratory ailments, thanks to its exceptional air purity and surrounding pine forests. The village features pleasant historic sanatoriums and Belle Époque villas that blend seamlessly into the mountain landscape. The main attraction is the Belianska Cave (Belianska jaskyňa), located on the slopes of Kobylí Hill. It is the only accessible cave in the High Tatras and was one of the first in the world to be electrically lit, as early as 1882. The guided tour covers 1.3 kilometers of spectacular dripstone formations, underground lakes, and the 'Music Hall,' so named for its incredible acoustics where occasional concerts are held. Visitors should prepare for the climb to the entrance and the cool 5°C temperature inside. Beyond the cave, Tatranská Kotlina is the starting point for a hike to Chata Plesnivec, the only mountain hut in the Belianske Tatras. The trail leads through the scenic Seven Springs Valley, offering a quieter alternative to the busier central Tatra paths. The resort is easily accessible via the main road from Poprad towards Poland. The cave is open year-round (except for Mondays and a brief seasonal break), making it a reliable destination for any season.
