The Old Town Hall of Levoča is one of the most magnificent Renaissance buildings in Slovakia, symbolizing the former wealth and status of this royal town. Originally constructed in the 15th century in Gothic style, it was rebuilt with its characteristic arcaded loggias following devastating fires in 1550 and 1599. The facade is notable for its allegorical paintings representing five civic virtues: Temperance, Caution, Valor, Justice, and Patience. Standing right next to the town hall is the famous 'Cage of Shame' dating back to 1600, which was historically used for the public humiliation of minor offenders. Currently, the building houses the Spiš Museum, featuring exhibits on the history of the Spiš region and the works of Master Paul of Levoča. The town hall has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2009, forming the centerpiece of one of the largest medieval squares in Europe.
