Havránok is one of Slovakia's most significant archaeological sites, perched on a hill overlooking the Liptovská Mara reservoir. The site preserves evidence of the Celtic Kotini tribe, who inhabited the region from the 4th century BC to the 2nd century AD. The most striking feature is the reconstructed Celtic oppidum, which functioned as a major religious and economic hub. Archaeologists uncovered a ritual sacrificial site here, featuring a deep pit with animal and human remains, providing rare insights into Celtic spiritual practices. In addition to the Celtic ruins, Havránok contains the remains of a medieval earthwork castle dating from the 11th to the 15th century. Today, it serves as an archaeological open-air museum, where visitors can explore reconstructed dwellings, defensive ramparts, and a ceremonial shrine. The combination of its deep historical layers and its scenic location with views of the Western Tatra Mountains makes Havránok a unique cultural landmark.
