Mile 91 is a market town in Tonkolili District in Sierra Leone's Northern Province and owes its name to the 91-mile point along the historic Freetown-to-Pendembu railway. The town sits at the junction of the main roads linking Freetown with Bo, Makeni, and Magburaka and has been a key transport node for decades. Thanks to its location, Mile 91 has become a busy market town with petrol stations, small hotels, workshops, and a large weekly market trading rice, cassava, groundnuts, maize, palm oil, and livestock from the surrounding villages. The town lies in the Temne heartland but also hosts many Mandingo, Fula, and Limba traders. Mile 91 also serves as a supply hub for the bauxite and iron-ore mines of Tonkolili District and is an important stop for long-haul trucks heading inland. Several schools, churches, mosques, and a government health center serve the town's growing population.
