Les Mamelles is a district on the eastern coast of Mahé whose name derives from the two distinctively rounded hills that rise just north of the village, named for their "mamelles" (French for "breasts"). Over recent decades the district has developed from a scattered agricultural settlement into a modern suburb that supplies housing for the growing population zone southeast of Victoria. Here stand the Stade Linité sports complex, which regularly hosts football matches and athletics competitions, and the Indoor Sports Centre multi-purpose hall, the most important venue for indoor competitions and concerts. Les Mamelles is also known for the modern Top East housing development and for the national Inland Revenue Office complex. The Catholic chapel, a modest modern building, serves the rapidly growing parish community. The main connecting road to the international airport passes nearby, making the district easily accessible from all directions.
