The National Museum in Pančevo is one of the oldest museums in Vojvodina, housed in the impressive former Magistrate building, which was constructed in 1833. This Neoclassical structure, located in the city's central square, reflects Pančevo's historical significance as an administrative hub within the Banat region. Founded in 1923, the museum curates a vast collection that spans from prehistoric times to contemporary art. A major highlight is the archaeological department, which features significant artifacts from the Starčevo culture, one of the most important Neolithic cultures in Europe. The historical section provides deep insights into the city's life during its time as part of the Austro-Hungarian Military Frontier. The art collection is equally notable, containing works by renowned painters such as Paja Jovanović, a master of Serbian realism. Today, the museum serves as a dynamic cultural center, fostering an appreciation for Banat's history through rotating exhibitions and educational initiatives. The building itself is a protected monument due to its architectural beauty and historical value.
