Kapetan-Miša's Palace (Serbia)

Weather…

Kapetan-Miša's Palace is one of Belgrade's most magnificent historical landmarks, located on Studentski Trg (Students' Square). Completed in 1863 according to the designs of Czech architect Jan Nevole, it was originally intended as a private residence for Miša Anastasijević, the wealthiest Serbian merchant of his time. The building's architectural style is an eclectic blend of Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, and Romantic elements, giving it a monumental presence. Anastasijević eventually donated the palace to his 'homeland' for educational purposes, leading it to become the seat of the Great School and other cultural institutions. Today, it serves as the Rectory of the University of Belgrade and houses parts of the Faculty of Philosophy. The facade is notable for its rich decorative stone carvings and sculptures that symbolize science and arts. As a protected cultural monument, the palace stands as a testament to 19th-century philanthropy and the academic foundations of modern Serbia.
