Klisura Monastery, also referred to as Dobrača, is a Serbian Orthodox nunnery tucked away in the Moravica River valley near Arilje. The main church, dedicated to the Holy Archangel Michael, was constructed in the late 13th or early 14th century in the traditional Raška architectural style. The structure is characterized by its elegant simplicity, featuring a single dome and whitewashed stone walls that blend harmoniously with the rugged landscape. Throughout its history, the monastery suffered repeated destruction during the Ottoman period and the world wars, serving as a resilient cultural lighthouse for the local populace. While much of the original medieval interior has been lost, the current iconography and furnishings reflect centuries of continuous devotion. Its name is derived from the Serbian word 'klisura', meaning gorge, indicating its secluded location within a narrow river pass. Today, the monastery is a peaceful spiritual haven, renowned for its meticulously maintained grounds and its role as a significant regional religious center.
