The National Museum in Čačak was established in 1952 and is housed in one of the city's most historically significant buildings, the former lodging (konak) of Jovan Obrenović, built in 1835. This structure is a prime example of Balkan-Oriental architecture and features the Obrenović family coat of arms on its facade. The museum curates extensive collections in archaeology, history, ethnology, and art history, documenting the development of the Morava region from the Neolithic era to the late 20th century. A special emphasis is placed on researching the Serbian uprisings and the local dynasties that shaped modern Serbian statehood. The archaeological department preserves valuable finds from nearby Roman villas and medieval monasteries. Managing over 15,000 registered artifacts, the museum provides a comprehensive insight into the cultural and social life of Central Serbia.
