The Ovčar-Kablar Gorge is a protected landscape of exceptional importance located in western Serbia, carved by the West Morava river. The gorge separates the mountain massifs of Ovčar and Kablar, creating a dramatic landscape characterized by sharp meanders and steep limestone cliffs. Officially protected since 2001, the reserve spans approximately 2,250 hectares of diverse terrain. The area is famously known as the "Serbian Mount Athos" because it hosts ten medieval monasteries located within its dense forests. Its flora is remarkably rich, featuring over 600 plant species, including rare orchids and endemic herbs. Geomorphologically, the gorge contains numerous caves and rock shelters that provide habitats for various bat species and birds of prey. The gorge is strategically located near the city of Čačak. It is easily accessed by road, and there are distinct starting points for trails leading up into the steep terrain from the riverbanks.
