Mokra Gora is a memorable valley village in Western Serbia, positioned between the Tara and Zlatibor national parks. It gained international fame as the home of the 'Sargan Eight' (Šarganska osmica), a unique heritage narrow-gauge railway. The track earns its name from its clever figure-eight shape designed to overcome a steep elevation change, featuring 22 tunnels and 5 bridges along a scenic 15-kilometer route. The area is also rich in mineral springs, such as Bele Vode, which has a very high pH level and is visited for its therapeutic properties. On the Mećavnik hill overlooking the village lies Drvengrad (Timber Town), an ethno-village created by filmmaker Emir Kusturica, which serves as a cultural hub hosting the annual Kustendorf film festival. The surrounding nature gives pristine forests and crystal-clear mountain streams. Easily reachable by road from Užice or Zlatibor, the best time to visit is from spring to autumn when the train is operational. The local cuisine is hearty, featuring mountain trout and the famous 'Užice prosciutto', best enjoyed in the wooden restaurants that dot the landscape.
