Leskovac is situated in the fertile valley of the South Morava River and serves as the economic hub of the Jablanica District. The city experienced rapid growth in the late 19th century and was often referred to as Little Manchester due to its then-flourishing textile industry. Today, Leskovac is internationally recognized for its rich culinary traditions, most notably the Roštiljijada barbecue festival, which attracts thousands of visitors annually to celebrate local grilling expertise. Historically, the nearby Hisar Hill is of great significance, serving as an archaeological site with remains spanning from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The city center features a blend of modern architecture and buildings from the civic era, while the Textile Museum meticulously documents its industrial heritage. Surrounding Leskovac are five artificial lakes and the Kukavica Nature Park, offering diverse opportunities for outdoor recreation and leisure. The city remains a vital agricultural producer, particularly famous for the Leskovac pepper, and continues to be a lively center of culture and traditional craftsmanship in southern Serbia.
