The Tula State Arms Museum is one of Russia's oldest museums, founded in 1724 by a decree from Peter the Great. Tula has been the center of the Russian arms industry for centuries, and the museum comprehensively documents this tradition. Since 2012, the main part of the exhibition has been housed in a modern building shaped like a traditional Russian archer's helmet (shishak). The collection includes rare exhibits of cold steel and firearms from the 14th century to the present, including ceremonial weapons for the Tsar and experimental prototypes. A special focus is placed on the achievements of local designers like Sergei Mosin, who developed the famous Mosin-Nagant rifle. The museum uses state-of-the-art multimedia technology to vividly present the development of weapon technology and Tula's role in military history.
