Wotje Atoll is regarded as one of the most beautiful atolls in the Marshall Islands. Its lush vegetation, featuring countless coconut palms and breadfruit trees, gives it a true paradise feel. During World War II, Wotje was one of the most heavily fortified Japanese bases in the Pacific. Today, visitors can still see massive coastal defense guns, bunkers, and aircraft wrecks that have remained almost intact. In addition to its history, Wotje features a very relaxed atmosphere. The lagoon is clear and calm, first-rate for swimming and kayaking. The expansive beaches provide good spots for picnics and watching the sunset. Traditional Marshallese culture is still very much alive here, and guests are welcomed with great warmth. The local economy is centered on copra production, and the island serves as an important trading hub for the Ratak Chain. Access is via small domestic flights from Majuro. The best time to visit is from December to April, when the weather is dry and the breeze is refreshing.
