Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (Lithuania)

Weather…

The resplendent Palace of the Grand Dukes in the heart of Vilnius stands as the reborn symbol of Lithuanian sovereignty. For over four centuries, the original complex served as the political, diplomatic, and cultural nexus of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the lavish residence of European monarchs. Following its annexation by the Russian Empire, the palace was completely demolished in 1801 in a deliberate effort to erase the memory of Lithuanian statehood. Following the restoration of Lithuania's independence, an ambitious national reconstruction project was launched, reaching successful completion in 2018. Today, the palace museum masterfully blends Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements, hosting extensive historical collections that highlight Lithuania's former European prominence.
