Grigiškės is an industrial suburb located in the western part of the capital, Vilnius, picturesquely situated at the confluence of the Vokė and Neris rivers. The history of the city is inseparably linked to the visionary engineer Grigas Kurecas, who founded a large paper mill here in 1923, which ultimately gave the town its name. Today, the “Grigeo” factory still dominates the local economy as one of the largest producers of paper and wood products in the Baltics. A special historical landmark of Grigiškės is the striking, nearly three-kilometer-long aqueduct over the Vokė River, built during the interwar period to supply water to the factory. Grigiškės combines its industrial heritage with close proximity to the surrounding natural landscape.
