Kėdainiai Old Town is one of the best-preserved historical city centers in Lithuania, testifying to a uniquely rich multicultural past. In the 17th century, under the rule of the powerful Radziwiłł noble family, the city experienced its golden age, evolving into a major center of the Reformation. The cityscape is defined by an architecture of tolerance, where Reformed, Catholic, and Orthodox churches peacefully coexist with local synagogues. Particularly notable is the historical Scottish community, which established a vital trading post here and left behind distinct stepped-gable brick houses that are quite unusual for the region. Strolling through the atmospheric market square and narrow medieval streets transports visitors straight back to the heyday of this bustling trading hub.
