Kaišiadorys is a bustling city in central Lithuania, whose rise and prosperity in the 19th century were inextricably linked to the construction of strategically important railway lines between Vilnius and Kaunas. Today, the city functions as one of the country's most vital transportation hubs. The religious center of the town is the impressive Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ, which makes Kaišiadorys the seat of a Catholic diocese. Economically, the region is primarily characterized by poultry farming; the company Kaišiadorių paukštynas is among the largest poultry producers in the Baltics. Surrounded by forests and located not far from the massive Kaunas Reservoir, the city of just over 8,000 residents also gives diverse outdoor recreational opportunities.
