Labanoras gives its name to Lithuania's largest regional park and is synonymous with untouched nature. The village itself is tiny but historically significant, especially for its wooden Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, faithfully rebuilt after a fire. The region is known for the Labanoras Forest, the country's second-largest forest massif, providing shelter to elks, wolves, and rare birds. For tourists, the Mindūnai observation tower is a major highlight. Standing 36 meters tall, it provides a dramatic panoramic view of the Siesartis lake district and the dense pine forests. The area is a hub for berry pickers and mushroom hunters, and the 'Labanoras Path' invites long hikes. A local specialty is the Labanoras bagpipe (Labanoro dūda), a traditional musical instrument closely linked to the town's identity. In local inns, one should definitely try game dishes and blueberry pie. Labanoras is best visited in late summer, when the forests are full of fruit and the lakes are still warm enough for swimming.
