Water temperature…
Katse is a settlement in the Thaba-Tseka District that gained world fame through the Katse Dam, Africa's second-highest double-curvature arch dam. Completed in 1996, the structure is the heart of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and supplies South Africa's Gauteng province with vital water resources. The dam wall, standing 185 meters high, dominates the landscape and has created a massive reservoir that extends deep into the surrounding valleys. Beyond its technical significance, Katse is home to the Katse Botanical Garden, established to rescue and research the alpine flora threatened by the flooding of the valleys. The region attracts engineering enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, offering a unique combination of human achievement and pristine mountain scenery. The climate is alpine, with cool summers and harsh winters, which has always shaped the living conditions of the local Basotho community.
