Trakošćan Castle (Croatia)

Weather…

Trakošćan Castle, located in the rolling hills of northern Croatia, is widely regarded as one of the country's most romantic and best-preserved historical sites. Originally built in the 13th century as a small observation fortress, it underwent a major transformation in the mid-19th century under the Drašković family. Count Juraj VI Drašković converted the neglected medieval structure into a representative residential palace in the Neo-Gothic style, simultaneously creating a large English-style landscape park and an artificial lake. The interior of the castle is meticulously preserved, featuring original furniture, a significant collection of weaponry, and family portraits spanning several centuries. The architectural design is characterized by its prominent round towers, battlements, and white facades that reflect beautifully in the surrounding water. Now a state-owned museum, the castle provides a comprehensive insight into the lifestyle of the Croatian nobility and serves as a major cultural landmark.
