Trakošćan Castle is undoubtedly one of the most romantic and best-preserved castles in Croatia. Enthroned on a hill and surrounded by an easy on the eye artificial lake and an English landscape park, it seems to have sprung from a fairy tale. Originally a small fortress from the 13th century, it was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style in the 19th century by the noble Drašković family and transformed into a magnificent residence. Today, the castle is a museum that takes its visitors on a journey through the centuries. The interiors are richly furnished with original furniture, portraits, weapons and works of art from different eras, conveying a vivid picture of the life of the nobility. A walk around the lake on the landscaped trail gives panoramic views of the castle from different perspectives. The surrounding forest park invites you to extensive explorations. Trakošćan is not just a historical monument, but a place of peace and beauty that delights photographers, nature lovers and history buffs alike.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
