Ivanić-Grad is a town located in Zagreb County, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of the Croatian capital. The history of the settlement dates back to the 13th century, and it later served as a vital defensive fortress within the military frontier against Ottoman advances. Today, Ivanić-Grad is internationally famous for Naftalan, a rare type of healing mineral oil that is found in only two locations worldwide (the other being in Azerbaijan). The Naftalan Special Hospital, established in 1989, utilizes this unique natural resource to treat skin conditions and rheumatic diseases, making the town a significant hub for health tourism. Beyond healthcare, the region is renowned for its agricultural traditions, specifically pumpkin cultivation. Every autumn, the town hosts the 'Bučijada' festival, one of Croatia's largest pumpkin-themed events, showcasing local crafts and gastronomy. Ivanić-Grad balances its industrial heritage, rooted in oil and gas extraction, with modern amenities and a peaceful environment surrounded by the fertile plains of the Moslavina region.
