Dugo Selo is a town located 20 kilometers east of Zagreb at the foot of Martin Breg hill, serving as a significant part of the Zagreb metropolitan area. The town's origins are rooted in the medieval period, specifically 1209, when King Andrew II of Hungary granted the land known as 'Terra Sancti Martini' to the Knights Templar. On the summit of Martin Breg lie the ruins of the 13-century Church of St. Martin, which remains the town's most iconic landmark and a protected cultural monument. During the late 19th century, Dugo Selo emerged as a crucial railway junction connecting Zagreb with Budapest and the rest of Slavonia, driving economic growth and migration. Today, it is recognized as one of Croatia's fastest-growing towns due to its high quality of life, proximity to the capital, and excellent transport infrastructure. In addition to its modern urban development, the area maintains a strong tradition of viticulture on the slopes of Martin Breg, continuing a legacy that dates back several centuries.
