Koćuša Waterfall

Koćuša Waterfall is one of the most exquisite natural gems located near the village of Veljaci in the municipality of Ljubuški, southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Situated on the Trebižat River, renowned for its string of waterfalls, Koćuša is distinguished by its extraordinary width of approximately 50 meters, while its vertical drop is a modest 5 meters. Despite its low height, the waterfall is deeply impressive due to the sheer volume of water cascading over a wide limestone shelf into a broad pool below. The geological formation consists of tufa, or travertine, created over millennia through calcium precipitation, which results in a constantly evolving rock structure. In the immediate vicinity, several ancient mills and stamps can be found, which were historically used for grinding grain and processing fabrics, now standing as cultural-historical monuments. The site provides a refreshing escape during the intense Herzegovinian summer heat and is surrounded by lush vegetation that stands in stark contrast to the nearby karst terrain.
