Gradiška plays a central and highly strategic role as a border town on the right bank of the Sava River, facilitating vital trade and transport between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union. The city's history stretches far back into antiquity, when a Roman fortress named Servitium stood here, later receiving the name Berbir under Ottoman rule. The surrounding Lijevče polje region is one of the most fertile agricultural areas in the country, shaping the local economy through intensive crop farming and fruit growing. Additionally, Gradiška has developed into a major hub for the wood processing industry, heavily supported by the heavily forested areas nearby. The modern urban infrastructure is strongly oriented towards cross-border freight transport and international logistics.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
