Jajce is a unique historical city in central Bosnia, renowned worldwide for its wide-open natural wonder: a magnificent 22-meter-high waterfall located right in the heart of the urban center, where the Pliva River dramatically plunges into the Vrbas. Historically, the city played a central and vital role as the final capital of the independent Bosnian Kingdom before the Ottoman conquest in the 15th century. Rising majestically above the waterfall is the medieval fortress of Jajce, which entirely dominates the townscape. Additionally, the city holds enormous significance for the modern history of the Balkans, as it hosted the 1943 AVNOJ session where the foundational principles of socialist Yugoslavia were established. Visitors can also explore fascinating ancient sites such as the Roman Mithraic temple.
