Tashichho Dzong (Bhutan)

Weather…

Tashichho Dzong, known as the 'Fortress of the Glorious Religion', is an impressive Buddhist monastery and fortress in Thimphu, serving as the administrative and religious heart of Bhutan. Located on the western bank of the Wang Chhu river, it houses the offices of the Royal Government and the King's throne room. Originally founded in 1216, the dzong suffered multiple destructions due to fires and earthquakes throughout its history. The present magnificent structure was extensively expanded and renovated between 1962 and 1969 by the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, following traditional methods without nails or written blueprints. Tashichho Dzong also serves as the summer residence for the central monastic body. Its architecture is characterized by massive white-washed walls, golden roofs, and exquisitely carved windows. Every year, it hosts the Thimphu Tshechu festival, one of the country's largest and most bustling religious celebrations. The grounds are surrounded by beautiful rose gardens and manicured lawns, lending a dignified and serene atmosphere to the complex.
