Bogra is often referred to as the gateway to North Bengal and is one of the oldest and most important cities in Bangladesh. It is situated on the banks of the Karatoya River and has a rich historical heritage dating back centuries. Just a few kilometers from the city center lies Mahasthangarh, the ancient capital of the Pundravardhana kingdom, which was a major center of Buddhist and Hindu culture as early as the 3rd century BC. Today, Bogra is a bustling commercial hub with a thriving agricultural sector, particularly known for its high-quality red chilies and famous yogurt, known as Bogra Doi. The city has a well-developed infrastructure and serves as a vital transit point for trade between the northern districts and the rest of the country. Its strategic location and historical significance make it a key urban center in the Rajshahi Division.
