Located approximately 62 kilometers south of the industrial hub of Khulna, it was originally created to alleviate the pressure on Chittagong Port and to facilitate trade for the country's southwestern districts. The port is a major export center for jute, jute goods, and frozen seafood, particularly shrimp harvested from the local coastal farms. Over the years, the facility has expanded to include five dedicated jetties and several private berths, supported by a growing network of warehouses and processing zones.
