Voranava, situated in the northern part of the Grodno Region near the Lithuanian border, is a town defined by its long-standing status as a borderland settlement. First mentioned in the 16th century under the name Boloniki, it was later renamed Voranava after its noble owners. The town's significance increased significantly in the late 19th century with the opening of the Vilnius-Lida railway line, which turned it into a vital transport link. While much of the town's current layout reflects 20th-century development, it remains a center for the local Catholic community, centered around the Church of Divine Mercy. A major historical gem located just outside the town in the village of Gaityunishki is a unique fortified manor house built in 1612, representing a rare example of Renaissance defensive architecture in Belarus. Today, Voranava is a peaceful administrative hub where Belarusian, Polish, and Lithuanian cultural influences intermingle. Its economy is primarily supported by agriculture and cross-border logistical activities.
