Mir Castle (Belarus)

Weather…

Mir Castle is one of the most iconic architectural monuments in Belarus and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. Started in the 16th century, the fortress displays a striking combination of red brick and white plaster, with its five towers reflecting Gothic and Renaissance influences. For centuries, it served as a residence for the powerful Radziwiłł family and was later expanded with Baroque features. Today, the fully restored castle houses a museum with 39 exhibition rooms documenting the life of the Belarusian nobility and the region's complex history. In addition to the lavish state rooms, visitors can explore the grim casemates, the defensive towers, and the family chapel. The castle is surrounded by an easy on the eye English-style park and a pond, making it a favorite spot for weddings and photography. The complex even includes a boutique hotel offering stays in a historic setting. The town of Mir itself has a deep Jewish heritage, evidenced by the former Yeshiva and local memorials. The best time to visit is during summer when knight tournaments and open-air concerts are frequently held in the courtyard. Located 90 km southwest of Minsk, it is a well-suited day-trip destination.
