Norviliškės Castle (Lithuania)

Weather…

Norviliškės Castle is an architectural gem located in the extreme southeast of Lithuania, rising right next to the Belarusian border. Originally constructed in the early 17th century by a wealthy merchant as a massive defensive tower, the structure impressively merges formidable defensive architecture with elegant Renaissance features. Particularly notable are its decorative stepped gables and deep, archer-friendly window embrasures. In 1617, the complex was repurposed into a Franciscan monastery, infusing it with deep spiritual significance. Following its dissolution in the 19th century, the building slowly deteriorated but underwent comprehensive restoration in the early 21st century. Today, the castle thrives as a spirited venue for cultural events, historical weddings, and the spectacular backdrop for the renowned 'Be2gether' music festival.
