Wals-Siezenheim is located in the Salzburg-Umgebung district and, due to its high population but lack of official city status, is often regarded as the largest village in the Alpine republic. The municipality consists of several districts and is characterized by enormous economic dynamism, primarily fueled by its proximity to the city of Salzburg and Salzburg Airport. Geographically, the area extends from the banks of the Salzach River to the border with Bavaria. A prominent modern landmark is the Red Bull Arena, where the football club FC Red Bull Salzburg plays its home matches and which served as a venue during Euro 2008. Despite heavy industrialization and the settlement of numerous retail chains, Wals-Siezenheim has retained its rural charm, which is particularly evident in its traditional inns and agricultural farms specializing in vegetable cultivation. The municipality is considered the vegetable hub of the province of Salzburg. Historically, the area has been inhabited since Roman times, as indicated by archaeological finds in the surroundings. Today, Wals-Siezenheim is an important hub for traffic and trade, while the recreational areas along the Saalach River and at the Untersberg mountain provide residents with a high quality of life. The blend of international fame through sports and regional groundedness defines the special appeal of this community.
