Puerto Pirámides
Puerto Pirámides is a small, windswept coastal village and the only settlement within the Península Valdés nature reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is globally recognized as one of the premier locations for observing Southern right whales, which migrate to these protected gulfs to mate and give birth. Beyond the awe-inspiring boat tours to see whales, the surrounding Patagonian desert meets the Atlantic Ocean, creating dramatic cliffs and beautiful beaches. Visitors can also spot sea lions, elephant seals, orcas, and Magellanic penguins at nearby points on the peninsula. The town's few restaurants specialize in fresh Atlantic seafood and Patagonian lamb. Located about 100 kilometers from Puerto Madryn, it is accessible by paved and dirt roads. The undisputed best time to visit is between June and December, when the whales are present, with September and October offering the highest concentration of marine life.
