Andalgalá is a beautiful oasis city in Catamarca Province, at the foot of the Aconquija mountain range. The settlement's name originates from the Diaguita language, meaning 'Lord of the High Mountains.' The city is famous for its flourishing agriculture, particularly walnut, olive, and quince cultivation, but its mining past is also defining. One of the world's most significant rhodochrosite deposits is located near Andalgalá; this pink gemstone, also known as 'Inca Rose,' is Argentina's national stone. The city's calm atmosphere, clean mountain air, and the contrast of the surrounding landscape with the desert plateaus provide a unique experience. The settlement is an important starting point for the Cuesta de la Chilca, an impressive mountain serpentine offering dramatic views of the valley.
