Kukenán-Tepui (Venezuela)

Weather…

Kukenán-Tepui, also known as Matawi-Tepui, is a majestic table mountain located in the Guiana Highlands of Venezuela, reaching an elevation of approximately 2,680 meters. It is situated within the Canaima National Park in Bolívar State, directly adjacent to Mount Roraima, separated by the Kukenán Pass. Geologically, the mountain is part of the Roraima Supergroup, composed predominantly of Precambrian sandstone exceeding 1.7 billion years in age. A defining feature is the Kukenán Falls, which drops 674 meters from the plateau, ranking among the tallest waterfalls globally. In the cosmology of the indigenous Pemon people, the mountain is revered as a sacred site, often referred to as the 'place of the dead,' which historically rendered its ascent taboo. The summit plateau's flora is characterized by high levels of endemism, with many carnivorous plants and orchids thriving in the barren, rocky crevices. Scientific exploration of the summit intensified in the late 20th century, leading to the documentation of species found nowhere else on Earth due to its extreme isolation.
