Zalissia National Nature Park (Ukraine)

Weather…

The Zalissia National Nature Park was established on December 11, 2009, in the Kyiv and Chernihiv Oblasts, covering an area of approximately 14,836 hectares. It emerged from a former state residence that served for decades as a closed forestry and hunting ground for the political elite. This isolation enabled the preservation of an exceptionally high density of large mammals, including European bison, red deer, and roe deer. Geographically, the park is located at the edge of the forest zone and consists predominantly of pine forests on gentle sandy soils. Historically, the area was the site of important diplomatic meetings during the Soviet era. Today, Zalissia serves the conservation of biodiversity and the conduct of scientific research on the dynamics of wildlife populations. The park faces the challenge of balancing the protection of shy wildlife with growing interest in ecological tourism near the capital, Kyiv. The regeneration of natural mixed forests is a long-term goal of the park administration.
