Mezhyhirya (Ukraine)

Weather…

Mezhyhirya was once the heavily guarded private residence of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Spanning 140 hectares along the shores of the Kyiv Reservoir, it has become a symbol of excessive luxury and is now known as the 'Museum of Corruption.' The main residence, called 'Honka,' is one of the largest wooden log houses in the world, featuring gilded interiors and extravagant decor. Beyond its political significance, Mezhyhirya is a world-class landscape park. It houses a private zoo with ostriches and wild boars, an underground shooting range, professional golf courses, and an extensive collection of vintage Soviet and Western cars. The territory is crisscrossed by cycling paths and features artificial waterfalls, terraced gardens, and a floating restaurant shaped like a galleon. Located 25 km north of Kyiv, it is accessible by car, shuttle buses, or even a seasonal hydrofoil boat from the capital. Due to its vast size, renting a bicycle or an electric golf cart at the entrance is highly recommended. It serves as a popular weekend getaway for families and tourists seeking both recreation and a glimpse into recent history.
