Uman is a city in Cherkasy Oblast, central Ukraine. Founded in 1616, it grew as a trade center due to its location on the Umanka River. The city is famous for the Sofiyivka Park, a 180-hectare English-style landscape park established in 1796, featuring ponds, waterfalls, and classical sculptures. Uman holds great significance for the Breslov Hasidic community, as the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov is located there, attracting thousands of pilgrims annually, especially during Rosh Hashanah. The city's economy includes machinery manufacturing, food processing, and tourism. During World War II, Uman was occupied by Nazi Germany and was the site of the Uman massacre in 1941.
