Bila Tserkva, which translates to 'White Church', is the largest city in the Kyiv Oblast and is situated on the Ros River. The city was founded in 1032 by Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise under the name Yuriev. After its destruction by the Mongols in the 13th century, it was later rebuilt and took its current name. Bila Tserkva is most famous for its 'Oleksandriya' Dendrological Park, established in the late 18th century by the Polish Branicki noble family, which is one of the largest and most beautiful landscape parks in Eastern Europe. During the 19th century, the city was a significant Jewish cultural center and a thriving trade location. Today, Bila Tserkva is a major industrial hub, particularly known for tire manufacturing (Rosava) and pharmaceuticals. The city also serves as an important transportation node and is home to several scientific institutes and universities.
