Oleksandriia is a prominent city in the Kirovohrad Oblast of central Ukraine, with its origins dating back to 1746. Originally established as the Cossack settlement of Usivka at the confluence of the Inhulets and Berezivka rivers, it later became a significant military and administrative outpost of the Russian Empire. While it grew as a merchant town in the 19th century, its major industrial transformation began with the large-scale extraction of lignite (brown coal) in the surrounding area. Oleksandriia emerged as one of Ukraine's primary lignite mining hubs, which in turn spurred the development of machine-building and chemical industries. The city is also noted for its cultural heritage, including several educational institutions and a long-standing theatrical tradition. Despite its industrial roots, Oleksandriia remains a notably green city with extensive parks and a well-developed infrastructure that serves as a vital transport link in central Ukraine.
