Uzhhorod is the administrative center of the Zakarpattia Oblast and one of Ukraine's westernmost cities, located directly on the border with Slovakia. Situated on the Uzh River, the city features a history spanning over a thousand years, having been part of the Kingdom of Hungary and later Czechoslovakia. Its central landmark is the 9th-century Uzhhorod Castle, which currently houses an extensive local history museum.
