Dubno is a significant historic city in the Rivne Oblast of northwestern Ukraine, situated on the Ikva River within the Volhynia region. Its first written mention dates back to 1100 in the Hypatian Codex, marking it as one of the oldest settlements in the area. In the 15th century, under the rule of the Ostrogski family, the city was developed into a powerful defensive and administrative center. Dubno Castle, established in 1492 on the foundations of an earlier fortress, stands as one of the best-preserved examples of Polish and Ukrainian Renaissance fortification. During the 18th century, the city gained international economic prominence as the host of the "Dubno Contracts," one of the largest trade fairs in the region. This economic golden age facilitated the construction of numerous monasteries and churches, including the monumental Bernardine Monastery. Today, the city serves as a key transport hub along the M06 highway and preserves a rich legacy of sacral buildings and Baroque architecture.
