Kolomyia is a cultural jewel of western Ukraine, located in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast along the banks of the Prut River. First mentioned in the Galician-Volhynian Chronicle in 1241, the city served for centuries as a major trade and salt mining center within the Pokuttia region. Kolomyia is globally renowned as a heartland of Hutsul culture and is home to the unique Pysanka Museum, housed in a building shaped like a giant Easter egg. Another prominent institution is the Museum of Hutsul Folk Art, which preserves rich traditions of woodcarving, weaving, and ceramics. The downtown architecture reflects the city's Austro-Hungarian heritage, featuring grand structures like the Neoclassical Town Hall and numerous Art Nouveau villas. In the 19th century, Kolomyia was a significant hub for the Carpathian oil industry. Today, it is a bustling center for tourism and traditional crafts, drawing visitors with its bustling markets and colorful folk festivals. Its location at the edge of the Carpathians also makes it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
