Chop is a strategically vital city located in the extreme west of Ukraine, within the Zakarpattia Oblast at the triple border with Hungary and Slovakia. First mentioned in 1281, the city has developed into one of the country's most significant transportation hubs due to its geographic position at the crossroads of major European transit routes. Geographically, Chop is situated in the Tysa Lowland, near the confluence of the Latorica and Tysa rivers. The city's economy is almost entirely centered on railway operations, logistics, and customs services, as it hosts one of the largest border railway stations and transit points for freight moving between Ukraine and the European Union. The urban layout is highly functional, dominated by extensive rail yards and logistical facilities that handle the change of wheel sets for international trains. Despite its primary logistical role, the city maintains a diverse multicultural atmosphere, shaped by a significant Hungarian minority and its historical ties to various European states over the centuries.
