Weather…

Morské oko (Sea Eye) is a true natural jewel and the third largest natural lake in Slovakia. Hidden deep within the legendary primeval beech forests of the volcanic Vihorlat Mountains in the far east of the country, the lake was formed by a massive landslide at the end of the Tertiary period that blocked the course of the Okna stream. The deep green to blue surface of the water perfectly reflects the surrounding pristine wilderness and serves as the centerpiece of the national nature reserve. The majestic beech forests encircling the lake are so undisturbed and unique that they were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2007 as part of the 'Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians'. In order to strictly protect the sensitive ecology and the outstanding water quality, swimming, boating, and fishing are strictly prohibited in the lake. A well-maintained nature trail loops around the water, offering visitors fascinating insights into the untouched flora and fauna of this volcanic mountainous landscape.
