Hasardag Range (Turkmenistan)

Weather…

The Hasardag Range is a prominent western branch of the Kopet Dag mountain system located in southwestern Turkmenistan. It forms the core of the Syunt-Hasardag State Nature Reserve, which was established in 1978 to preserve the region's unique subtropical mountain ecosystems. The terrain is defined by rugged limestone formations and deep canyons, with elevations reaching up to 1,600 meters above sea level. Geologically, the range consists primarily of Cretaceous sedimentary rocks that were uplifted during the Alpine orogeny. The area acts as a vital biological corridor between the Caspian Sea and the central mountains, hosting rare flora such as wild walnuts, pomegranates, and figs. It is also one of the last remaining habitats for the critically endangered Persian leopard. Today, the range is protected as a strictly regulated scientific zone, emphasizing its role in regional biodiversity conservation.
