Awaza Tourist Zone (Turkmenistan)

Weather…

The Awaza Tourist Zone on the Caspian Sea is Turkmenistan's most ambitious project to promote international tourism, located near the port city of Türkmenbaşy. Since its official launch in 2007, billions of dollars have been invested in infrastructure, leading to the creation of a modern resort city with numerous luxury hotels, yacht clubs, and amusement parks. A prominent feature of Awaza is the seven-kilometer-long artificial canal that connects the hotels and is used for boat excursions. The zone enjoys a special economic status and features state-of-the-art leisure facilities, including water parks, sports centers, and a convention center. Despite the impressive architecture and clean beaches, international visitor numbers remain limited due to strict visa regulations, making Awaza primarily an exclusive recreation area for the local population. It stands as a symbol of the country's drive to diversify its economy beyond the gas sector.
