A prominent feature of Awaza is the seven-kilometer-long artificial canal that connects the hotels and is used for boat excursions. The zone enjoys a special economic status and features state-of-the-art leisure facilities, including water parks, sports centers, and a convention center. Despite the impressive architecture and clean beaches, international visitor numbers remain limited due to strict visa regulations, making Awaza primarily an exclusive recreation area for the local population. Visiting
The Awaza Tourist Zone is a publicly accessible resort area along the Caspian coast. Most beaches, parks and canals are freely walkable, while entry to hotel complexes is restricted to guests.
Typical hours
The entire area is accessible around the clock, the beaches are open even at night. Hotels and restaurants have usual operating hours that may vary by season.
Photography
Photography is unrestricted in the entire public area. The artificial canals and modern architecture provide good subjects especially in the golden light of late afternoon.
Time needed
For a walk along the promenade and a beach visit, plan about two to three hours. If you want to explore the entire zone with all hotels and parks, you need half a day.
Combine with
Awaza is about 20 kilometers from the city of Turkmenbashi, which has a port and train station. A trip to the nearby Caspian Sea and its sandy beaches rounds off the visit.
Getting there
Awaza is easiest to reach by taxi from Turkmenbashi (about 20 minutes) or with your own car. Many hotels in Turkmenbashi offer shuttles to the tourist zone.
Insider tip
As Awaza is seasonal, check before your trip whether the desired hotels and restaurants are open. Bring swimwear, but note that the Caspian Sea is very salty.
